At Park Residence PBI was tasked with providing a fall arrest and abseil solution. The plant room at level 29 was particularly challenging as it had minimal clearance to the building edge and very limited space as well as temperamental Auckland weather conditions.
PBI installed UniRail which blended in with the aesthetics as well as designed to blend in with the building façade curtain walling in order to support rope loads for abseil.
On multiple lower levels of the building, there are areas where the building steps out. To overcome these obstacles when abseiling we had to provide solutions for additional systems at levels 2 and 14 to prevent added pressure on the glass balustrades.
PBI also worked with the project engineers on level 14 to try and incorporate davit bases into the concrete structure beneath the tiled deck; after much consultation, we decided to change to anchor points and Larkin frames to avoid a complete redesign of the base structure.
A multi-faceted approach utilizing several different products, providing a more cost-effective solution than the initial davit option:
Level 2: Cable and anchor points
Level 4 – Cable
Level 14 – Larkin frames & anchor points (discretely positioned below the tiles so as not to ruin the aesthetic of the balcony) at level 14 for abseil
Level 29 Plant Deck: UniRail (level 29 plant deck) for abseil + anchor points to access the external door from the plant room.
