The complete XV Pacific Rim Games 2015 build project was started with a fixed deadline and a very compressed time frame from concept design to construction and completion.
Selection of fall arrest cable, rail systems and anchors were installed with roof pitches varying from 5˚ to 60˚, with access provision with walkway & ladder solutions.
RoofSafe Cable/Spiratech Anchors to Kingspan Roofing/Dimond Roofing/Concrete Membrane Roofing; RoofSafe Rail to Kingspan Roofing; Monkey Toe Walkway, Handrail, Ladders, Roof Condenser Mounts & Access Hatches.
Project included; Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium, Sir John Guise Outdoor Stadium, Taurama Aquatic Centre and the Olympic Village Dining Hall.
Peddle Thorp were involved in the main stadium projects and due to the very tight time frame they chose to work closely with reputable New Zealand contractors & subcontractors that they could trust and guarantee a finished product within the programme. The projects were totally managed from NZ and required working with the architects to produce a solution to the height safety and access requirements on site, two of the buildings were new builds and two buildings were total refurbishments, the challenges were aplenty.
A key requirement was the removal of existing steel walkway and installation of new walkway within the roof space of the Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium, 25m above the main auditorium working in 35˚ to 40˚C heat and humidity, the standard climatic conditions for Papua New Guinea. PBI provided a safe working environment in a developing country that is does not currently have strong regard for Health & Safety at work.
